The area from Loch Laggan, to the south
west of Newtonmore, to Nethy Bridge to the north east has become well
known to viewers of the TV series, Monarch of the Glen, starring Susan
Hampshire, Alisdair Mackenzie, Hamish Clark and Alexander Morton. The
series features the fictional village and estate of 'Glenbogle', which
ias made up of many locations throughout the area

Glenbogle Castle is, in reality,
Ardverikie House, on the shores of Loch Laggan, which can be seen from
the Newtonmore to Spean Bridge road, the A86T

The village shop at
Laggan, 10 miles south east of Newtonmore, has featured as the Glenbogle

|
Whilst the Clan Macpherson Museum in
Newtonmore became the Glenbogle tearooms and post office

... and the small
conservatory at the Main's Hotel in Newtonmore became the Glenbogle
Gentlemen's Hairdressers

The glen behind
Newtonmore, Glen Banchor, features frequently in the series, and the
hill in the background became Ben Bogle for the series

Kingussie golf course
featured as the Glenbogle club

whilst further
afield, the Railway station at Broomhill, Nethy Bridge, on the
Strathspey Steam railway is the fictional location for Glenbogle Station
|
|
Many of the actors and crew stay in
Newtonmore during filming and can often be spotted in local shops and
hostelries after a hard day's filming.
