Self Catering Accommodation for Country Lovers

Activities

Newtonmore, which is at the Southern part of Badenoch and Strathspey, is close to the geographical centre of Scotland and unquestionably, in terms of ease of access to all the main walking areas, the practical centre. It is renowned for the variety of walking which is available and the village has recently created 'The Wildcat Centre', where visitors can obtain information on a vast range of walks throughout the local area and further a field.

The area now referred to as Monarch of the Glen Country follows the valley of the River Spey for about 30 miles  from Laggan and Newtonmore in the South to Nethy Bridge in the north and is bounded by the Cairngorm mountains in the east and the Monadhliaths to the west.

Throughout the area there is a range and variety of walks to suit everybody, experienced or novice. Whether you enjoy the high level mountain tops of the Cairngorms, the open ground of the moors, or the wooded forest trails of Glenmore & Inshriach... you will be spoilt for choice.

For the less adventurous, the 11.5 mile Badenoch Way runs through very pleasant scenery between Kingussie and Kincraig and then on to Dalraddy.

For Biking, there are facilities at Wolftrax, just outside Laggan, Sustrans Route 7 passes through the village and there is excellent mountain biking from the door in the Monadliath, in the Ardverikie estate .... Neil and Janice Buxton have a lot of good road and mountain biking routes on their website:

There is also gliding available nearby, and white water rafting.

The Monadhliaths
These can be seen from the cottages!
The Munros Geal Charn, A'Cailleach, Carn Sgulain and Carn Dearg are all nearby, while the Cairngorms and Creag meagaidh are only a 30 minute drive. The Corbetts Carn Fhreiceadain, Geal Charn Mor and Creag Dhubh are also close by.

Many publications are readily available from the Wildcat Centre in Newtonmore's Main Street, and other outlets. A few are listed below.
